The Jenu Kuruba, a forest-dwelling tribal community in Karnataka, India, have experienced profound cultural transitions driven by displacement, modernization, and exposure to dominant societies. This article examines how the Jenu Kuruba navigate the tension between preserving ancestral customs and adapting to modern socioeconomic demands. Using a qualitative exploratory design with semi-structured interviews (n = 50) and dual moderator focus group discussions, this study reveals multi-layered shifts not only in traditional occupations, language, and leadership, but also in their cultural practices and rituals. Findings highlight significant intergenerational tensions and psychological dilemmas as the community grapples with identity loss and aspirations for modern livelihoods. Implications for culturally sensitive policies and community-driven revitalization are discussed.
